CELINE YONG - northwest artists in action

Born in S. Korea, Celine Yong came to U.S. 15 years ago, and arrived in Washington 3 years ago. Since childhood, she used to draw and mimic movie stars faces in realistic manner in her own play time. Later, art was her only joy and solace she could believe in, even though she did not dare to choose art as her carrier choice as it has been told that pursuing art caused starving and an insecure standard of living. That led her to majoring in Literature (English) in college following her family's wish for practical reasons.
In the meantime, she did not stop continuing to pursue her artistic passion. One day she was deeply inspired by looking at the serene and magical beauty of landscape paintings created by a variety of contemporary artists such as Elizabeth Mowry, Bill Cone, and Pedro Molina. She is basically self-taught in art by learning some essentials like color theory and composition from various artists covering the past and present era. After studying many different artists' lives and works on her own, she decided to have her lifelong dream rejuvenated and started using pastel as her primary medium for its immediacy and luminosity, although now she alternates oil and pastel for her work.
Nowadays, she is aware that pursuing a lifetime passion is more valuable than remaining in a comfort zone. Her goal is to accomplish a certain level of visual communication with viewers through her artistic experiments. She is really into capturing nature's color and using emotional interpretation through variations and manipulation of color within her work as much as Van Gogh did in his works.
